Experience
I began tutoring at the University of Maryland Writing Center as a junior in college, and as a volunteer tutor for fellow Hebrew students at about the same time. Since then, I have tutored numerous adults and children in writing, ESL, reading comprehension, American history, and Hebrew. I love tutoring not only because I enjoy sharing my knowledge, but because I'm gratified to see students realize their capabilities in understanding concepts. I try to help the student learn HOW to learn the material, through mnemonics, providing additional background, etc. I try to mold the material studied to fit into the student's mind by relating it to concepts already familiar, but also try to stretch the student's mind around the material by using the Socratic method to lead the student toward his or her own understanding of it.
