I speak Cantonese fluently and have been studying Mandarin for 8 years. As a Chinese American with immigrant parents, I grew up in two worlds that gave me insight into both. My invaluable teaching experiences have made me both adaptable and forever curious. Over this last semester, I worked as an ESL tutor at the Edmunds School in Burlington, Vermont. I encouraged my immigrant students to be confident using English through different exercises, focusing on reading comprehension. During my junior year of college, I worked as a Chinese tutor for a college student in an intermediate Chinese course. We practiced speaking, focusing on tones and grammar, and I watched his grades consistently improve. In the summer of 2011, I taught creative writing and yoga as an elective for the American program, Summerbridge Hong Kong, in Hong Kong. I managed my own classroom of local high school students. As an English teacher abroad, I learned to tailor my innovative lessons to my students' individual needs.
