Joseph B.
Private tutor in Brookline, MA
Education
Third-year PhD Student in Physics at Boston University. My focus is in applications of and measurements using micro- and nano-mechanical systems. MA in Physics from Boston University in 2016 BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Physics from Drexel University. Graduated summa cum laude in 2013
Experience
I have about 5 years of experience in one-on-one and group tutoring privately and through Drexel and Boston Universities. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, I offer group tutoring and review sessions at a discount from my normal rates. My listed rate of $50/hr is for introductory algebra-based physics and all of its prerequisites (algebra, geometry, etc.). My pricing changes for higher level courses because of the preparation required for effective tutoring. I also have three years of experience as a teaching fellow for the introductory physics course at BU. That includes working with groups of up to 80 students in studio-style classes, holding office hours for help outside of class, and leading discussions and review sessions. Before coming to BU, I also worked at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory as an engineering analysis co-op, I worked at Max Levy Autograph as a Project Engineering Co-op, and I worked at the Paulsboro Refining Company as an Engineering Reliability Co-op.

Hobbies
As a graduate student in physics, I'm obviously interested in, well, physics. My current research has to do with using electron spins to do interesting things to different systems. For those interested, I can certainly expand more. I have a lot more interests in physics, but I'll just leave you with that. I also have a lot of interests outside of physics. One thing I like to do is take long nature hikes and travel around the New England area. When there isn't 100 inches of snow on the ground, it's really nice here. On occasion, I like to play tennis (poorly), though one of my favorite athletic activities is rock climbing. For indoor hobbies, I like to play video games (I know, stereotypical) and tinker with electronics. I also love to watch movies and keep up with recent TV shows. At the moment, my favorite show is The Blacklist, but that changes from week to week.
