Luke M.
Private tutor in Brookline, MA
Education
I received my Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2013. Before that, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Physics and Philosophy (dual degree) from Whitman; I graduated in 2008 with cum laude honors. What is Materials Science? It's basically the intersection of Physics and Chemistry: you know that Lithium-ion battery in the computer you're using to read this? My supervising professor invented that. Cool stuff.
Experience
I've been tutoring for several years and my favorite part is that "Ah-ha!" moment when the passion for learning gets ignited in a student. That passion is what will carry them forward beyond the next assignment, test and class into life full of learning. Most of my education is in the sciences (particularly physics and chemistry), and with that comes great deal of study in math. However, I also have studied philosophy and feel that I have a great deal to offer those who would like help in the humanities as well.

Hobbies
When I am not conducting research in the lab or working with students, I enjoy cooking with my wife, running with my dog, cycling, and reading. I'm also a fan of sports (played baseball through college), music and board games: I try to find some common interest with every student in order to connect! Feel free to reach out, and we can see if it feels like a good fit!
