Education

Knox College: Bachelor of Arts, English Literature, minor in Music, 2013 While at Knox, my main focus was in British Literature prior to the the Victorian Period, with particular interest in Shakespeare and Romantic Period Poetry. I also studied Children's and Adolescent Literature, mostly focusing on chapter books. The foundation of my Literature studies was in literary theory, where I received a background in many different schools of criticism ranging from Marxism to Feminism to New Criticism to Reader Response Theories. As far as music goes, I studied history, theory, and performance to varying degrees. I also completed a senior project focusing on composition. Simmons College: Master of Arts, Children's Literature, In progress (May 2016 graduation) At Simmons I am studying with the aim of ultimately going for a PhD in Literature with a focus on Children's and Adolescent Literature. I study books ranging from picture books aimed at the very young to older adolescents are young adults. My primary focus is in the literature directed at the latter category.

Experience

While at Knox I was on the Deans List for five trimesters of my four year career. I also was a volunteer in the local community with the Reading Buddies for three years where I went to a local elementary school weekly to read with a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grader. My senior year I was an editor for the genre focused literary Magazine, Quiver, and helped the publication move from solely publishing electronically to producing a print publication. For music, I was also a section leader my Junior and Senior years in the Knox College Choir, and therefore tasked with helping to teach and clarify the music to members of my section as well as serve as the ears within the section for the director when approaching concert time. I also served as Manager for the Men's Ensemble and would run rehearsals when our director was not there as well as run sectionals to help expedite the learning process. In High School, I took both the AP Language Composition and AP Literature Composition tests and received fours on both those tests.

Hobbies

I enjoy sports. I mostly play golf now (though I don't have my clubs with me in Massachusetts). I played soccer and baseball as a child as well. Professional sports that I follow are mostly Baseball, Golf, and Football. I also enjoy College Basketball during March Madness. I also love video games. I ultimately want to apply literary theory to video game narratives as a field of study. I have a Game Boy Advanced, Xbox360, XboxOne, and Nintendo 3DS. I play Pokemon, Legend of Zelda, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, and games from The Elder Scrolls Series. For me playing these games is a form of reading. As a literature student, though, nothing beats sitting down with a good novel. Given my current program, I mostly read Young Adult novels, but I love classic literature such as Jane Austen, Mary Shelley, Charles Dickens, Edgar Allen Poe, and Louisa May Alcott.
